# Lintel Catalog > A curated catalog of JSON Schemas for validating configuration files, hosted at https://catalog.lintel.tools/ Lintel Catalog maps over 1,000 JSON Schemas to the filenames they validate. Given a filename like `tsconfig.json` or `.github/workflows/ci.yml`, the catalog tells you which schema to use for validation and editor autocompletion. ## How to find the schema for a file ### Option 1: Search catalog.json directly Fetch the full catalog index: GET https://catalog.lintel.tools/catalog.json This returns a JSON object with a `schemas` array. Each entry has: - `name` — human-readable schema name - `description` — what the schema validates - `url` — the schema URL (fetch this to get the full JSON Schema) - `fileMatch` — glob patterns for filenames this schema applies to - `versions` — (optional) map of version identifiers to versioned schema URLs To find the schema for a file, match its path against the `fileMatch` globs. Patterns without a `/` match at any directory depth (i.e., `tsconfig.json` matches `project/tsconfig.json`). Patterns with `**` match any number of path segments. Example: to find the schema for `biome.json`, look for an entry whose `fileMatch` contains `biome.json`. The result's `url` field gives you the schema to fetch. ### Option 2: Fetch a schema directly by URL convention Schemas are hosted at predictable URLs: https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/{group}/{schema}/latest.json For a specific version: https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/{group}/{schema}/versions/{version}.json Example: https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/biome/biome/latest.json https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/biome/biome/versions/2.1.0.json ### Option 3: Browse the site Visit https://catalog.lintel.tools/ to browse schemas by group, search by name, and view rendered documentation for each schema. ## Catalog format The catalog follows the SchemaStore catalog format (compatible with VS Code, IntelliJ, and other editors). The structure: ```json { "$schema": "https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/lintel/catalog/latest.json", "version": 1, "title": "Lintel Catalog", "schemas": [ { "name": "Configuration", "description": "Biome configuration file", "url": "https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/biome/biome/latest.json", "sourceUrl": "https://biomejs.dev/schemas/latest/schema.json", "fileMatch": ["biome.json", "biome.jsonc"], "versions": { "2.1.0": "https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/biome/biome/versions/2.1.0.json" } } ], "groups": [ { "name": "Biome", "description": "Biome configuration schemas", "schemas": ["Configuration"] } ] } ``` ## Lintel CLI Lintel is a multi-format JSON Schema linter. Install and run it via npx: npx @lintel/lintel ### explain — Schema documentation Show rendered documentation for a schema, navigable by JSON Pointer or JSONPath: npx @lintel/lintel explain tsconfig.json npx @lintel/lintel explain --schema https://catalog.lintel.tools/schemas/biome/biome/latest.json npx @lintel/lintel explain tsconfig.json /properties/compilerOptions npx @lintel/lintel explain biome.json '$.linter' When given a data file, `explain` also validates it and shows errors inline in the documentation. Use `--path` to resolve a schema by filename without requiring the file to exist: npx @lintel/lintel explain --path .github/workflows/ci.yml ### identify — Schema resolution Show which schema a file resolves to without validating: npx @lintel/lintel identify package.json ### check — Validate files Validate files against their matched schemas with pretty terminal output: npx @lintel/lintel check *.json npx @lintel/lintel check biome.json tsconfig.json ### Other commands - `ci` — Validate with machine-readable one-error-per-line output - `convert` — Convert between JSON, YAML, and TOML formats - `format` — Format JSON, YAML, TOML, and Markdown files - `annotate` — Add schema URL annotations (modelines) to files - `init` — Create a lintel.toml configuration file ## Key URLs - Catalog index: https://catalog.lintel.tools/catalog.json - Site: https://catalog.lintel.tools/ - Source: https://github.com/lintel-rs/catalog - Lintel linter: https://github.com/lintel-rs/lintel
